LOS ANGELES, Feb 03, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Guess?, Inc. (NYSE: GES) today reported January retail sales results for the fiscal month ended January 29, 2005. The Company also announced that it is adopting the National Retail Federation (NRF) calendar for reporting monthly sales results as further described below.
Based on the NRF calendar for the current and year-ago periods, total January retail sales for the fiscal month ended January 29, 2005 were $28.1 million, an increase of 10.2% from sales of $25.5 million for the fiscal month ended January 31, 2004. Comparable store sales for fiscal January 2005 increased by 4.4% compared to fiscal January 2004. Comparable store sales for January 2004 increased 5.1% under the new 2004 calendar compared to 9.5% as reported under the Company's previous calendar.
Guess?, Inc. Adopts NRF Calendar
The Company believes that its adoption of the NRF monthly reporting calendar will make it easier for analysts and investors to analyze its results as compared to other retailers'. While it is adopting the NRF monthly calendar for sales reporting, the Company will continue to have its 2005 fiscal year-end of December 31, 2005, compared to a 2005 fiscal year-end of January 28, 2006, under the NRF calendar. The change in the monthly sales reporting calendar has no impact on the Company's financial reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
For comparative purposes, the Company is providing 2004 monthly sales results as revised to reflect the adoption of the new calendar. Specifically, the attached tables summarize the following information:
1. 2004 comparable store sales percentage increases by fiscal month and
quarter under the new calendar and as reported under the Company's
original calendar
2. 2004 total retail sales and percentage increases by fiscal month and
quarter under the new calendar and as reported under the Company's
original calendar
3. Dates for each fiscal month of 2005 under the new calendar
4. Dates for each fiscal month of 2004 under both the new and original
calendars
5. Dates for each fiscal month of 2003 under both the new and original
calendars.
